VIAVI MTS2000 Handheld Test Set
The MTS2000 handheld test set is a fiber measurement device. It provides optical testing for industrial automation backbones and process networks. This unit consolidates OTDR Fiber-Complete power meter and inspection tools in one field portable unit. It supports installation commissioning and maintenance of multimode and single mode fiber infrastructures. The MTS2000 has a 5-inch touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution. Its interface layout enables access to configuration menus file management utilities and detailed graphical test results. The instrument provides 2 USB 2.0 ports, 1 mini-USB and 1 RJ45 Ethernet port. Its optional WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity enable remote sessions integration with management systems and wireless results synchronization.
The mainframe of the test set integrates 1 GB internal storage sufficient for 20000 compressed OTDR measurement traces. Its rechargeable lithium polymer battery delivers up to 9 hours operation suited to long diagnostic sessions. The unit’s AC/DC unit accepts 100 to 240 V range and delivers 12 V. This design permits MTS2000 operation from mains supplies portable generators or mobile in vehicle power sources. The mechanical design of the MTS2000 balances compact dimensions with robustness and its overall dimensions with module are 175 x 138 x 80 mm (6.89 × 5.43 × 3.15 inches). Its mainframe mass is 864 gm and its environmental specifications cover operating temperatures from -20 to +50 °C and high humidity exposure.
The handheld test set includes an optional integrated broadband power meter using an InGaAs detector optimised for optical power measurements. It covers -60 to +10 dBm with typical accuracy of 0.2 decibel. Its calibrated wavelengths are 850, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625 and 1650 nm. The unit’s selectable wavelengths extend from 800 to 1650 nm in single nm steps for flexible test adaptation. The VFL within the MTS2000 operates at 650 nm and supports light or 1 Hz modulation. Its VFL port uses a 2.5 mm universal push pull adapter for robust field connections. The talk-set module operates at 1625 nm for providing 32 decibel dynamic range for bidirectional communication. Its laser sources within the VFL and talk-set comply with Class 2 and Class 1 safety classifications.
The MTS2000 test meter supports SmartAccess, remote operation, StrataSync integration and workflows through Job Manager features. These capabilities help engineering teams capture data accelerate troubleshooting and document fiber performance across automated industrial facilities.
