Keysight/Agilent E1409B VXI Series C Chassis Shield
The Keysight E1409B is a C-size VXI chassis shield designed for use in VXI-based test systems. It implements the VXIbus Specification to enable grounded shielding between designated mainframe module slots. The chassis shield is compatible exclusively with the Keysight E1401A and E1401B mainframe configurations. It is specifically engineered to manage electromagnetic interference challenges within densely populated VXI measurement environments.
The primary function of the Keysight shield is to isolate modules generating EMI at excessive levels. It also serves to protect sensitive measurement modules from external noise sources originating in adjacent mainframe slots. This targeted shielding capability ensures consistent signal integrity and measurement accuracy throughout the entire VXI system. It delivers reliable electrical isolation between slots without compromising the structural integrity of the mainframe.
The VXI Chassis Shield includes four conductive module guides that support accurate slot alignment during installation. An insulated steel shield provides the physical EMI barrier between the two designated mainframe slots. The installation of the chassis shield requires the mainframe to be completely powered off and all power sources removed. All installed modules and faceplates must be removed from the two slots targeted for shielding. The installer must then confirm the two adjacent slots to be separated by the chassis shield. Installations between slots 2/3, 5/6, or 9/10 require removal of a rail channel screw from rail 2.
The lower module guide on the right side of the shield location must be removed first. The two lower shield guides must then be individually prepared and installed into the appropriate chassis rail positions. The previously removed lower module guide must then be reinstalled directly against the newly positioned shield guides. The upper module guide is also removed and reinstalled as part of the complete procedure. The E1409B VXI Chassis Shield is inserted into the mainframe after all guide components are secured. The shield must be pushed inward until it seats completely and firmly against the mainframe backplane. This step is necessary to preserve both the RFI shielding integrity and the airflow performance of the mainframe.
