Agilent/HP E1671A SONET/SDH Transport Overhead Generator
The HP E1671A is a SONET/SDH Transport Overhead Generator built for VXI based test systems. This generator belongs to the HP 75000 Series 90 platform used for broadband testing. The module generates transport overhead bytes for SONET and SDH frame structures. The engineers use this generator to validate overhead processing in network equipment.
The unit is housed in a single-slot C-size VXI module format. This compact design allows installation of several such modules within one mainframe. The model operates as part of the Broadband Series Test Systems component set. The module produces configurable transport overhead patterns within this system. The test engineers pair this unit with receiver and analyzer modules. This combination supports full SONET and SDH transport layer verification.
The module requires a stable external or internal clock reference for operation. The clock source selection on the unit can be switched between internal and external modes. Proper clock configuration ensures accurate overhead byte generation and timing alignment. The users should verify clock settings before running extended test sequences.
The Agilent/HP E1671A requires a short warm-up period once power is applied. Allow it to reach thermal equilibrium before starting precision overhead testing. This warm-up period improves signal stability and timing repeatability on the module. Skipping this warm-up period may cause measurement drift during long test runs.
The model operates within a rated temperature range of 5 to 40 degrees Celsius. The storage temperature for the module ranges from negative 20 to 60 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity should not exceed 95 percent at 40 degrees Celsius. These environmental limits protect internal circuitry from thermal and moisture damage.
This module has 4 internal fuses (F1 - F4). All fuses are 125 Volts and 1 Amperes. These are fast blow fuse for quick circuit protection with an axial lead. These fuses cannot be replaced by the operator. The SONET/SDH Transport Overhead Generator has components on its circuit boards which are sensitive to static. When operating outside the mainframe slot, use a grounded wrist strap. When transporting or extended storage, keep this module in an antistatic bag. The operators are required to turn off the mainframe power before installing or removing the module.
