Keysight/Agilent E8311A Pulse Pattern Generator
The E8311A from Keysight (formerly from Agilent) is a 165 MHz Pulse Pattern Generator built for the VXI C-Size 1 platform. It generates all standard pulses and digital patterns required to test all current logic technologies. The model supports signal families including TTL, CMOS, ECL, PECL, LVDS and GTL across its full operating range. Any timing parameter can be changed without glitch or dropout for reliable device under test characterization. The model features two internal oscillators to accommodate diverse timing and signal test requirements. The first is a synchronously triggerable internal oscillator suited for use in flexible triggering configurations. The second is a stable and accurate internal Phase Locked Loop designed for high precision signal generation. An external frequency reference can also be connected to the model for further improved timing accuracy.
The period range of the Pulse Pattern Generator extends from 6.060 ns to 999.5 s for broad coverage. The period can also be entered as frequency spanning a range from 1.00 mHz to 165 MHz. The period resolution in VFO mode reaches 3.5 digits with a best case precision of 5 ps. The PLL accuracy is rated at 0.01 % with RMS jitter specified at 0.001 % plus 15 ps. The pulse width on the E8311A ranges from 3.030 ns to 999.5 s for wide pulse test coverage. The width resolution is 3.5 digits with a best case specification of 5 ps for accurate pulse shaping. The delay is measured between the trigger output at the front panel and the main signal output. The fixed delay is 14.0 ns typical with an additional variable range from 0.00 ns to 999.5 s. The delay resolution on the model is 3.5 digits with a best case precision of 5 ps. The source impedance on the generator is selectable at 50 Ω ± 1 % or 1 kΩ for flexible load configurations.
The short circuit current of the E8311A Pulse Pattern Generator is rated at ± 400 mA and doubles in value when channel addition is applied. The maximum external voltage is ± 24 V and the instrument supports selectable normal and complement output modes. The ON/OFF switching function uses internal relays to connect or disconnect the output in high impedance mode.
