Keysight/Agilent E8402A C-Size VXI Mainframe
The Keysight E8402A is a 13-slot VXI mainframe designed for industrial test and measurement environments. The model provides an available power output of 686 W across an input range of 90 to 264 VAC. The usable power is rated at 500 W across both the 110 – 264 VAC and 90 – 110VAC input ranges. The mainframe supports continuous operation across a temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C. The input frequency is accepted from 47 Hz to 66 Hz maximum across the full input voltage range.
The power supply architecture of the mainframe delivers four regulated DC voltage rails to installed modules. The +5 V rail offers a peak current of 50 A and a dynamic current of 5 A. The +12 V and –12 V rails deliver peak currents of 6 A and 4 A, respectively. The + 24 V rail provides a peak current of 4 A alongside a dynamic current of 2 A.
The inrush current for the VXI mainframe is rated at 25 A typical at an input voltage of 110 VAC. At 264 VAC input, the inrush current rises to a typical value of 55 A. The DCV input is not recommended as the connector is not certified for this application. The operation at frequencies between 360 Hz and 440 Hz is not recommended due to leakage current risks.
The E8402A VXI Mainframe has dimensions of 352 mm height, 424.5 mm width, and 631 mm depth. It occupies 8 EIA rack units and weighs approximately 20 kg without installed modules. The chassis dimensions make it compatible with standard 19-inch rack installations in industrial environments.
The mainframe incorporates a built-in monitoring system that continuously tracks key operational parameters across the mainframe. The backplane voltage conditions and individual slot and power supply temperatures are actively monitored. The fan and impeller operation are also tracked to support consistent thermal performance across all slots. This monitoring capability enables proactive identification of faults before they impact system operation. The thermal management in the mainframe uses a quiet variable-speed power supply fan and backplane impeller.
