Keysight/Agilent E8404A C-Size VXI Mainframe
The E8404A VXI C-Size Mainframe from Keysight works as a 13-slot VXI bus mainframe designed for technical assessment systems. It delivers 1000 W usable power and 1902 W available power across a 90 V to 264 V AC input range. The unit supports RS-232 communication for system-level control. It includes enhanced monitoring features that support diagnostics, protection, and operational visibility during challenging mechanical test applications.
The Keysight E8404A is designed to function in a temperature range of 0°C to 55°C. There are 3 temperature sensors included in each slot for front, center, and rear thermal monitoring. The unit is fitted with air-control features to manage air flow. The unit is equipped with monitoring of fan speed to ensure that the unit cools correctly and helps with thermal protection.
The top display shows supply voltages, supply currents, total power, and related frame status information. The unit has a high rated peak current (90 A) at 55°C. This rating is intended for use in high current delivery applications with high operating temperatures encountered by VXI installations.
The input frequency range is 47 Hz to 66 Hz across the full supported voltage range. Operation from 360 Hz to 440 Hz is not recommended for this mainframe. Leakage currents may exceed safety limits when using those higher input frequency ranges. The DC voltage input is also not recommended for the unit. The input connector is not certified for DC voltage input applications. The E8404A includes a full-color graphical front display for direct frame status review. Operators can view temperature data, power data, fan status, system logs, and timer information.
The user-defined text messages can also be displayed on the front panel. Enhanced monitoring includes strip charts and histograms for practical diagnostics and trend review.
Audible warnings notify users when over-limit conditions occur within the monitored system. This warning function supports faster response when temperature, voltage, current, or cooling values exceed limits. A history queue records important operating conditions and warning events for later review. This stored history assists troubleshooting when intermittent issues occur during extended test sequences.
The E8404A VXI Mainframe supports plug-and-play WIN Framework driver integration. This driver support helps connect the mainframe into compatible Windows-based VXI software environments.
