EXFO FOT-930 Multifunction Loss Tester
EXFO’s FOT-930 is a complete fiber-optic test instrument that has been developed for use by field technicians and network installers. This multifunction loss tester includes three primary functional elements from which many fiber-optic test instruments are derived: an optical power meter (OPM), a stable light source, and an optical return loss meter (ORLM)—combined within a single, lightweight, portable housing. The FOT-930 can be optionally enhanced with additional functionality, namely a DDTS (Full-Duplex Digital Talk Set) and a VFL (Visual Fault Locator), to improve diagnostic and communication capabilities of teams that work with fiber optic cabling.
A key component of the FOT-930 is the proprietary FASTEST™ Automated Measurement System (AMS). The FASTEST AMS provides the capability to simultaneously perform bidirectional Insertion Loss (IL) and Optical Return Loss (ORL) tests at multiple wavelengths (up to four) in just one ten-second measurement cycle. Additionally, the FASTEST AMS automatically calculates fiber length during the test sequence, allowing users to obtain a complete characterization of their Passive Optical Network (PON) or other fiber link. The OPM portion of the instrument may include a number of detector types (Ge, GeX, and/or InGaAs) and support forty pre-calibrated wavelengths to allow for high-precision absolute power and loss measurements without manual adjustment.
The multi-functional loss tester was designed to provide versatility and flexibility in a variety of applications throughout telecommunications and broadband access networks. Specifically, the FOT-930 is a necessary tool for contractors and technicians performing fiber-optic cable installation, maintenance and troubleshooting functions, especially in FTTx environments. Users rely upon the FOT-930 to verify the performance of PON splitters, measure end-to-end link loss and locate faults or macro-bends. Test data is stored for later review and users may customize the pass/fail threshold. A replaceable lithium-ion battery provides a reliable power source for extended periods of time in the field and allows the FOT-930 to provide a complete, self-contained testing solution to ensure the quality and reliability of fiber optic cabling installations in outside plant and central office environments.
