EXFO FTBX-730C Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer Module
The EXFO FTBx-730C is a custom-designed optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) module specifically tailored for deploying and maintaining multi-dwelling unit and fiber-to-the-X networks. The EXFO FTBx-730C is a primary instrument used by field technicians working with passive optical networks to characterize their extensive point-to-point links over a dynamic range of up to 39 decibels. Its high capability to support high-split ratio PON splitters (up to 1:128) makes it an important tool for modern, high-density fiber installation.
Its most valuable aspect is its ability to do live fiber testing at either 1625 nm or 1650 nm wavelength, allowing for troubleshooting on active networks without disrupting services. The EXFO FTBx-730C is also designed for the technician to be as efficient as possible and easy to use. It has a very small dead zone, which helps find faults accurately close to the test source, and it can also add an optional in-line power meter to measure PON power at 1490 nm and 1550 nm at the same time. Additionally, the module is pre-configured to run EXFO's intelligent Optical Link Mapper application. This application will automatically complete the testing process by dynamically setting optimal parameters and acquiring multiple pulses and then display the results in an easily understandable pass/fail format. This makes it much easier to understand OTDR traces, allowing technicians of any skill level to get accurate results on their first try.
The applications of the EXFO FTBx-730C include, but are not limited to, testing of access networks, validating metro area links and testing passive optical local area networks. The module is a core component that fits into EXFO's FTB-1, FTB-2 and FTB-4 Pro platforms, thus turning these systems into highly capable and flexible field-testing workstations. The capabilities of the module enable technicians to accurately characterize complex optical links, identify macro-bends, provide bidirectional analysis for true splice loss measurements, etc.; thus, it is a fundamental tool to ensure the quality and performance of today's sophisticated fiber-optic infrastructure.
