EXFO MAX-720C-SM2 Access OTDR
The EXFO MAX-720C-SM2 Access OTDR is a specialized Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer for the purpose of constructing, debugging, and certification for single-mode access networks. Field technicians can use this for its combined 1310 nm and 1550 nm test wavelength and its live fiber port operating wavelength at 1625 nm for non-intrusive test capability over live networks. The live port has an integral high-pass filter providing greater than 50 dB isolation from the range 1270 nm through 1585 nm, providing measurement capability without the need for interruption of the service.
This model features the largest dynamic range of 36 dB for single-mode applications, complemented by market-leading even dead zones of 0.7 m and attenuation dead zones of 3 m. Its robust, field-hardened 7-inch color touchscreen display and 12-hour battery make the tool appropriate for the rigors placed by field plant. The tool is also ready for iOLM, tapping the intelligence from the Optical Link Mapper from EXFO for automated trace analysis, parameters setting, and fault finding using the dynamical multi-pulses for acquisitions.
Applications include FTTx/PON over 1x32 splitters certification, linking certification for the CO, data centre certification, and analysis for the fronthaul/backhaul network. The MAX-720C-SM2 supports EF-compliant launch conditions for consistent results and offers plug-and-play options such as a high-sensitivity GeX power meter (measuring up to -50 dBm) and a visual fault locator (VFL) for identifying breaks or bends.
Complementary tools comprise the use of the EXFO’s Fiber Inspection Probes (series FIP-400B) for connector certification and FastReporter 2 for reporting customized. Unit’s reflectance reduced connectors for dead zone capability and Windows type GUI for user-friendliness. One mode capability for distances from 260 km and fine sample resolution up to 0.04 m, the MAX-720C-SM2 has measurement capability and mobility for the unit for applicability by the technicians for OTDR capability for access networks.
