Keysight 34450A Digital Multimeter
The Keysight 34450A 5.5-digit bench digital multimeter (DMM) was designed to deliver accurate measurement in laboratory, educational, and industrial applications The device combines high-speed data acquisition with dual-display, with an extremely bright OLED display that allows observers to see both primary and secondary parameters simultaneously. It supports 11 measurement functions, including DC/AC voltage and current measurement, 2-wire and 4-wire resistance, frequency, capacitance, temperature, continuity, and diode testing. With a DC voltage accuracy of 0.015% as well as a maximum reading rate of 190 readings/second, it promises reliability in applications where throughput matters, e.g., production testing or in automated systems.
With 50,000 memory points, the 34450A accommodates long-term data logging, with as much as 14 hours of data stored. Histogram and statistical features built into the instrument also facilitate on-board processing so external softwares are reduced to a minimum. The connectivity modes are USB 2.0, RS-232, and GPIB, when optionally added as keys to PC integration under SCPI command or Keysight's BenchVue application program. BenchVue facilitates data visualization, logging, and export to programs such as Excel or MATLAB, while its mobile app facilitates remote monitoring.
The instrument features backward compatibility with earlier tools with Fluke 45 and Fluke 8808A command sets to facilitate easier migration from older tools. The 4-wire resistance measurement minimizes the lead resistance error, and having a NULL function allows more accurate measurement of low resistance. Protection features comprising CAT II 300 V and CAT I 1000 V ratings and input protection to 1000 V on all terminals are provided. Operating between 0°C and 55°C, 34450A has full accuracy from 18°C to 28°C after a 90-minute warmup. It also supports auto-ranging and manual ranging with sampling rate selectability between slow, medium, and high modes. Other operations are limit testing, as well as conversion from dB to dBm, and trigger-in/out to facilitate production-line testing coordinated when needed.
The test lead, power cord, and USB cable are standard accessories, while GPIB connectivity or expanded memory capacity are optional. It measures 103.8 mm x 261.1 mm x 303.2 mm with a weight of 3.75 kg and is benchtop as well as rack-mountable. With its modular design, the 34450A balances weight, precision, and speed, and module expansion to solve diverse measurement issues in research and automated applications.
