Keysight/Agilent 16197A Bottom Electrode SMD Test Fixture
The Keysight/Agilent 16197A is a highly repeatable and accurate bottom-electrode SMD (chip-style inductors and capacitors and related products) testing fixture. It supports testing of up to 3 GHz in a highly repeatable and accurate manner. It accommodates multiple sizes of SMD products, such as 3225 (1210), 3216 (1206), 2012 (0805), 1608 (0603), 1005 (0402), and 0603 (0201) and can be ordered without or with an optional guide. Custom guides for different sizes can be produced for use in alternative applications.
The 16197A features a device-guiding system and holding space for different sizes of SMD. It is equipped in the middle with an electrode plate, featuring four distinct sites for placing the electrodes for close and precise contacts for testing the device (DUT). The device guide supports and secures in place the DUT in a fixed position and orients it relative to the electrode for repetitive testing. The structure eliminates miscalculation and renders readings credible.
The fixture is operable at a temperature range of between -55°C and +85°C and can have a peak current and voltage level up to ±42V and 5A, respectively. It complies with standards such as EN61010-1, IEC61010-1, and CAN/CSA C22.2 No.61010-1-12 for secure application indoors in level 2 polluting conditions. The unit is sleek in nature and approximately 160 x 86 x 70 mm in size and weighs approximately 300 grams and is thereby suitable for application in laboratory and manufacturing conditions. The 16197A supports extended performance for extended calculation for errors in series equivalent resistance (ESR), dissipation factor (D), and impedance (Z) testing. The extended calculation for errors includes parameters like short repeatability, open repeatability, and fixture proportional error in providing accurate results in a wider band of frequency. The fixture is compatible for compensation for residual inductance since values for varied shorting bar setups are provided as references.
