Aeroflex 3010 PXI RF Synthesizer
Aeroflex's 3010 is an RF synthesizer that has a fixed output. It produces very accurate, pure RF signals between 1.5 GHz and 3.0 GHz. The 3010 is well suited for use in automated test systems (ATS) used by researchers, developers, and manufacturers due to the signal purity and frequency accuracy. The synthesizer is a single-slot 3U PXI module, which allows it to be part of small, modular test platforms. It can operate off of both an internal frequency standard and/or an external 10 MHz reference.
One of the key characteristics of the 3010 RF synthesizer is its 1 Hz frequency resolution, which allows users to have very fine control over their output signals. Another one of the key features of this RF synthesizer is its phase noise performance. The typical phase noise performance of the 3010 RF synthesizer is -116 dBc/Hz at a 20 kHz offset from a 2 GHz carrier. This very low phase noise performance is important to many applications where the sensitivity of the receiver being tested is important, including those used in modern communication systems. The module has excellent frequency agility. It can switch between frequencies rapidly, with the option to add a high-speed switching capability, where it will take less than 250 microseconds to change frequencies and settle to within 1 kHz of the desired frequency. This fast frequency switching capability is useful when testing systems that use frequency hopping spread spectrum techniques and/or when validating high throughput electronic components.
The main use for the Aeroflex 3010 is in a large PXI-based test system. It is often used as the local oscillator or signal source in combination with other modules. When used with a digital RF signal generator (like the 3020), it can be used to generate an IQ modulated source. When used with an RF digitizer (such as the 3030), it forms a down conversion system for the analysis of signals. This is why the 3010 is a necessary tool for testing many types of wireless communications devices, radar components, and many other types of RF electronic products by providing the necessary stable and clean signals needed to obtain accurate measurement results in both industrial automation and automated test environments.
