Keysight/Agilent 3499B 2-Slot Switch/Control Mainframe
The Keysight/Agilent 3499B is a small-sized half-rack 2U test switch and control mainframe that will enable easier automated test configurations by housing up to two interchangeable modules. It has two slots which may be filled with a variety of switching and multi-function boards to support a high density configuration of as many as 80 channels. A simple digital I/O port on the back of the unit enables connection of basic control lines, but also includes standard GPIB (IEEE 488) and RS-232 ports so that it easily integrates into most test environments. Additionally, the unit contains an easy-to-use external trigger BNC for synchronization purposes, and there are several controls on the front panel for both quick debug and manual operation.
With modules loaded in the Keysight 3499B, this unit can scan as fast as 350 channels/second, and can simultaneously open/close all 80 channels in less than .1 seconds; therefore, it would be well-suited for use in high throughput production test. There is a relay cycle counter located inside the instrument that will track how many times each channel's contacts have been closed; providing valuable information to help engineers plan for scheduled preventative maintenance, and avoid unplanned down time. This Switch/Control Mainframe has memory to store up to fifty user defined configurations, and is completely compatible with the SCPI command set, thereby allowing users to develop their own custom test software using reusable existing test programs. When combined with its ability to download new firmware, these attributes make it a very versatile platform upon which to build an application utilizing automated DUT characterization, signal integrity testing, and/or device validation.
Typically industrial automation engineers use the 3499B to send test signals from various DUTs through various bench top test equipment including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, frequency counters, and programmable power supplies. Its size makes it ideal for placement in overcrowded rack systems or in smaller R&D workbenches, and since the firm ware can be downloaded from the web the utility of the unit can be extended, and thus protect the value of your initial investment.
