Keysight/Agilent M9505A AXIe 5-Slot Chassis
The M9505A from Keysight/Agilent is a completely AXIe 1.0 compliant 5-slot chassis that is intended to host AXIe instrument modules within a 4U rack mountable enclosure with a total of four U's height. The M9505A has an embedded system module that uses one of the available slots; this preserves all other five slots for measurement or control cards. The chassis has Gen 2 x8 PCIe and Gigabit LAN interfaces to allow it to connect directly to an external controller. It also has a horizontal configuration of the slot which allows for a smaller footprint in the rack. The backplane on the M9505A offers a Gen 2 distributed PCIe data fabric with x4 lanes per slot as well as a secondary PCIe fabric, gigabit Ethernet to each module, sixty-two differential local bus lines for high speed adjacent module communication, and all required timing and triggering signals such as 100 MHz clocks and star triggers.
Built for demanding test applications, the Keysight/Agilent M9505A allows you to remove the fan tray from the front of the unit, and replace the power supply without having to remove any of the modules or remove the entire chassis. The AXIe chassis also has enough cooling capacity in each of the slots (each slot has 200 watts of cooling capacity), so even those AXIe modules that have very high current requirements will run stably. The embedded system module on the Keysight M9505A provides all of the functions required for managing the health of the chassis, controls power up sequence, controls fans, distributes clocks from either an internal or external reference source, and communicates through the Intelligent Platform Management Bus (IPMB).
Keysight's proprietary inter-chassis synchronization feature allows for coherent operation of multiple chassis making it perfect for use in large scale test set ups. The Keysight M9505A is the perfect solution for applications in Aerospace and Defense, Communications, Semiconductor Testing, High Energy Physics, Electronics Test and others were there are multiple AXIe modules that need to exist at the same time. Additionally, if you are currently building test racks based upon PXI technology this is a great alternative as it offers much higher bandwidth and greater module-to-module data transfer capabilities via the local bus. As well as being a cost effective solution for test racks; the M9505A uses intelligent front-to-rear cooling design thereby allowing engineers to place additional components or devices above or below the chassis eliminating any additional clearance needs.
