Keysight M9049A PCIe High-Performance Host Adapter
The Keysight M9049A PCIe Host Adapter is a high-performance interface that creates a completely transparent Gen 3 link from an external PC (via an iPass cable) to a PXIe or AXIe chassis. It is designed to fit in a single slot within any standard profile PCIe card position in desktop or rack mount workstations, using either an x8 or x16 physical connector. The Keysight M9049A can be connected via two iPass cable connectors to provide flexibility in configuration by providing a single combined connection path to a chassis supporting up to 16 GB/s of bandwidth or two independent x8 connections, each providing up to 8 GB/s of bandwidth. An onboard switch provides the ability to select which mode is used, providing the option to support a single chassis at its highest possible bandwidth rate or to support two separate chassis concurrently without requiring the purchase of additional host adapters.
The onboard clock isolator and PCIe switch ensure that a clean Gen 3 clock and buffers all signals prior to their being transmitted over passive copper cables; thus, the links remain intact and functioning for distances up to 2 m regardless of the timing quality of the host computer. In addition, since the expanded PCIe fabric is seen natively by the operating system, there are no special driver requirements, nor do you need any specific software. There are also two bracket-mounted LED indicators that indicate link activity per port for rapid troubleshooting.
Test engineers using automated testing applications utilize the M9049A to create high-bandwidth systems where an external PC has to both stream data to and send commands to multiple chassis that contain a combination of digitizers, arbitrary waveform generators, or vector signal transceivers. The adapter is compatible with concurrent streaming and command communication over Y1202A or Y1203A PCIe cables that have been qualified to operate at Gen 3. The M9049 A requires 13W of typical power and operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 55°C; therefore, it can be integrated into both long-running validation benches and production test cells. The M9049 A is only 111.15 mm × 167.65 mm in size and will fit in only one expansion slot; this reduces the amount of space required on the host side but still enables direct low-latency access to modular instruments throughout the PCIe fabric.
