Keysight/Agilent E2922A PCI-X Master Target Card
The E2922A is designed specifically for engineers who validate microelectronic components which utilize the 133 MHz PCI-X I/O Bus and is manufactured by Keysight/Agilent. Because of its ability to populate all PCI-X slots within a test environment, the E2922A allows engineers to evaluate the functionality of their PC motherboard chipset and host bridge components under actual working load conditions. In addition to providing for the evaluation of computer core logic components, the E2922A also provides for both protocol validation and flexible traffic generation. This allows the engineer to rapidly confirm device compliance during first-silicon bring-up.
The E2922A can operate at any speed up to 133.4 MHz with 64-bit address/data and will remain compliant with the PCI-X specification while enforcing 53 different protocol specifications. Additionally, the onboard exerciser is capable of generating the complex transaction type known as "split transactions." The E2922A contains one megabyte of onboard data memory and utilizes a real-time data generator to continuously generate test patterns. By enabling unidirectional data path validation, engineers are able to measure read/write performance characteristics of the device being tested under complete control of the test conditions.
By utilizing the C Application Interface (C-API), engineers can programmatically configure the E2922A's in-system programmability via the PCI-X interface. Engineers can then create customized traffic scenarios that can be run directly over the bus and can modify parameters such as burst size, transaction order, and response times when splitting responses without requiring additional hardware to control the process. This greatly reduces the amount of time required to establish a test configuration and results in high repeatability when running regression tests. As a result, engineers can thoroughly explore corner cases, including those involving injecting errors into the system and evaluating how well they recover from those errors.
As an example of how the E2922A can be utilized as a slot-filling PCI-X exerciser, engineers use it to find timing-related issues, data corruption, and other types of errors related to protocol violations within chipsets, servers, and workstation motherboard designs prior to mass production. For any laboratory that is designing or validating 133 MHz PCI-X chipsets, the E2922A provides a deterministic and repeatable validation environment. The specific design focus provided by the Master Target Card provides laboratories engaged in validating microelectronic components for compliance with regulatory requirements and customer specifications a means of conducting comprehensive bus-population-based compliance testing without having to consider excessive levels of complexity.
