Keysight/Agilent E2927A PCI Exerciser and Analyzer
The Keysight E2927A is an advanced, fully controllable 66 MHz, 32/64-bit PCI test card that significantly enhances the speed of executing your systems verification, design bring-up, compliance testing, and performance measurements within the computer and semiconductor markets. Operating as either a master or target, the card performs active PCI bus traffic generation while simultaneously recording live transaction capture. This gives designers valuable insight into their system components and other secondary buses (such as ISA).
Although the hardware specifications indicate a maximum frequency of 66 MHz (as an analyzer) and 50 MHz (as an exerciser), it will operate stably at 66 MHz and has been shown to successfully operate above 70 MHz for very short backplane lengths when sufficient design margin exists.
The E2927A includes 512 KB of onboard data storage memory, optionally up to 4 MB of state trace memory for the logic analyzer, 24 pattern terms, and a 64-level trigger sequencer. With real-time protocol checking and data comparisons being performed during acquisition, errors are immediately flagged without requiring post-acquisition processing. A CPU onboard executes embedded test applications, whereas a C-API allows users complete programmatic control over the card to support completely automated test environments. In addition, the card can execute autonomous stress patterns for long-duration reliability testing cycles. Setup and execution are facilitated by several provided GUIs; furthermore, a protocol permutator and randomizer provide systematic variation in protocol parameters to maximize test coverage in the least amount of time.
In order to expand its functionality through all stages of the design cycle, several options are available for extending the use of this test card. The PCI Exerciser option rapidly converts it into a programmable bus master and target for producing repeatable worst-case traffic patterns, functional stress testing, and large block data transfers to drive device performance. The Performance Optimizer option provides detailed post-processed analysis of captured traces, providing optimization advice based upon throughput, efficiency, and utilization. Finally, the System Validation Pack option provides predefined tests along with an intuitive interface to perform comprehensive validation of actual operational conditions. Overall, the E2927A supports every phase of development from initial debug of your board's bring-up to final performance tuning and ensuring PCI compliance.
