Keysight/Agilent E2940A Compact PCI Exerciser and Analyzer
The Keysight E2940A (formerly from Agilent) is a single-slot 3U CompactPCI board that includes a complete bus analyzer with the capability to add an exerciser for the purpose of validating and testing systems. The E2940A captures all 64 bits of PCI signals at speeds up to 66 MHz and supports all possible modes of hot-swap, including high-availability (HA) sequences used for testing hot-swapping events. The card complies with CompactPCI trace length limits and uses less than 25W. This tool is widely utilized by engineers in various areas such as hardware bring-up, embedded software development, performance benchmarking for telecommunications, industrial control systems, and mission-critical computing environments.
When configured in its basic analyzing mode, the E2940A has 150 Deep x 64K Wide Trace Memory, a 64-Level Trigger Sequencer, and 24 Pattern Terms. In addition, the Real-Time Protocol Checker detects any transactional error on the bus; it also checks all 64 signals for setup/hold time violations with a time resolution of 250 ps. For margin analysis purposes, users can move reference points in 250 ps increments. There are four counters continuously measuring throughput, utilization, efficiency, and retry rate.
For integration into larger test systems, there are both External Trigger I/O and Fast Parallel Interface. With the optional on-board exerciser installed, the E2940A can be completely programmed to act as either a PCI master or target using 512KB of local memory. It can Emulate Compliant Device Behaviors for Stress Testing and Corner Case Analysis. The C-API and PCI Protocol Permutation Library will automatically create Tests using the information contained in the generated Test Scripts. The System Validation Package contains pre-developed stress test scripts that will run out-of-the-box on Servers and Workstations.
Engineers involved in industrial automation will utilize the E2940A to debug Compact PCI backplanes, verify real-time data acquisition modules, and measure bus performance within embedded controllers. The Hierarchical Windows GUI provided allows users to quickly navigate from Transaction Lists to Waveform Views and thus greatly improve root cause analysis times for both hardware & firmware developers. In addition, the Keysight/Agilent E2940A has a logging capability allowing users to log protocol errors & timing violations for offline review.
