Keysight/Agilent E2969B Protocol Test Card (PTC) II for PCIe 2.0
The Keysight/Agilent E2969B Protocol Test Card (PTC) II is designed as a single, hardware-based solution that provides PCIe 2.0 compliance testing/exerciser stimulation/LTSSM validation. The E2969B runs all of the 22 PCI-SIG required tests at a data transfer speed of 5.0 GT/s regardless of link width (x1 thru x16). The test card will enable users to connect directly to a host system (for add-in card testing) or a DUT in addition to executing tests independently, eliminating the requirement for an additional test environment or platform.
The user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) allows for simple test execution using one click. Tests are organized by protocol layer to provide fast navigation. Users can execute each test individually or in sequence as part of a suite, and the results are provided in an HTML format that displays pass/warning/fail status with detail about each result to help quickly identify the source of failures.
A license upgrade for the Compliance Assured Test Package is available in addition to the basic test package that comes with the E2969B. More than 180 more PCI-SIG-recommended tests covering the transaction layer, link layer, configuration space, and electrical domain are included in the Compliance Assured Test Package. Use of this extended package provides designers the opportunity to increase their design's quality and decrease debug times through use of the same intuitive GUI and HTML reporting style used when executing the standard test package.
To expand on what the hardware of the E2969B can do, the hardware itself can be expanded upon through various software packages. With these software packages, it becomes possible to transform the E2969B into a full exerciser/LTSSM tester capable of performing tests compliant with PCIe 1.0 and 2.0. These capabilities include error injection for fault simulation, link and transaction layer stress, configuration space emulation, and power management testing. Engineers are able to perform link training/power state transition/protocol corner case validations on a single platform, thus reducing the complexity of test benches and overall cost.
Using the E2969B in conjunction with an E2960B series protocol analyzer enables correlated stimulus/response debugging/cross-triggering/traffic replay capabilities to gain deeper insights. However, due to its focused compliance emphasis, the E2969B will enable PCI-SIG certification-ready/interoperable confidence for designs utilizing PCI Express 2.0 technology.
