Keysight/Agilent E7574A Datacom Line Interface Module
Engineers of industrial automation and communications technicians use the Keysight E7574A data com line interface module as a method of implementing active noninvasive observation of legacy serial communication interfaces for proactive network maintenance. The Keysight E7574A uses a non-intrusive high-impedance monitor of legacy serial communication linkages, which allows an engineer to examine the V.35, RS-449 (V.11), and RS-232 (V.28) circuits without interruption to live traffic. Each unit can be used to monitor four bidirectional channels simultaneously using eight individual receivers. Therefore, it provides the ability to determine all faults within a network that involves both manufacturing data and telecommunications transmission.
The Keysight E7574A line interface module has two 50-pin CHAMP connectors for observing the signals on the circuitry for easy incorporation into current testing methods. The maximum data rate supported by the Keysight E7574A is 64 Kb/sec for V.35 and RS-449 and 64 Kb/sec for RS-232. In addition, there are no framing requirements associated with the operation of the module; therefore, it captures the raw bitstream with ± 350 ms time stamp accuracy when operating at full data rate. Additionally, the module contains built-in level one alarm functionality; specifically, alarms are generated if either a received clock or a received signal is lost. Thresholds for terminated receivers for each standard have been established as follows: V.35 mark = −0.2 V to −1.0 V, space = 0.2 V to 1.0 V, common mode = ±2 V; RS-449 mark = −0.2 V to −6.0 V, space = 0.2 V to 6.0 V, common mode = ±7 V; RS-232 mark = −3 V to −15 V, space = 3 V to 15 V.
Impedances presented to bridged receivers on the Keysight E7574A will always be greater than 20 Kohms for V.35 and RS-449 standards. Impedances presented to RS-232 receivers will vary from 3 Kohms to 7 Kohms depending upon the number of drivers attached to the transmitter. These high impedances provide excellent preservation of signal quality.
The tolerance of the received clock frequency is ± 4 percent up to 56 Kb/sec and ± 1 percent at 64 Kb/sec, providing good synchronization over a wide variety of clocks. Therefore, these factors combined make the Keysight E7574A line interface module an essential device for the continued maintenance of older industrial data com networks and the performance of detailed serial protocol analysis and debugging.
