Keysight/Agilent E7577A Signaling Advisor Link Expansion Undercradle
The E7577A Link Expansion Undercradle from Keysight/Agilent is a dedicated plug-in unit that will expand on the abilities of the Keysight Signaling Advisor mainframe. It has the capability to house 2 Link Interface Modules (LIMs), which allows field engineers and lab technicians to increase their capabilities for analyzing telecom signaling in the field. By using the undercradle, users are able to view and decode all the signals coming through multiple signaling links at one time, whether they are over a variety of physical layers.
The E7577A undercradle, itself, has a small footprint of 310 x 310 x 50 mm and only weighs 1 kg, making it easily integratable into portable field kits or mounted inside a rack. Although it adds additional physical layer access to the host, it does so without increasing the size of the overall system. As each LIM provides four duplex signaling links, the entire assembly can be used to capture and display information regarding the communication flow of many digital trunk and data communication standards. Some examples of compatible interfaces include 2.048Mb/s E1 (both balanced and unbalanced) circuits, 1.544Mb/s T1 lines, individual DS0 channels, and serial data communications standards such as V.35, RS-232, and RS-449. In addition to these interface options, the tool can also connect to legacy PSTN switches, SS7 signal transfer points, ISDN PRI, and other WAN termination equipment.
Telecom service providers and the maintenance team use the Signaling Advisor with an E7577A undergrade to provide real-time protocol decoding, call tracing, and performance monitoring in fixed-line and mobile backhaul environments. Since the undergrade is based off a modular design, it greatly enhances its flexibility when needing to switch out modules while performing tests on different nodes within a network. As such, the amount of downtime experienced while testing new or repairing existing connections is significantly reduced. With a single instrument capable of providing complete protocol transparency to allow faster root cause determination for problems associated with either signaling or interconnectivity issues, the undergrade is a valuable addition to any toolset used to test signaling.
