The J5457A from Keysight/Agilent is a High-Speed V-Series Protocol Analysis Interface is an advanced hardware protocol analyzer designed specifically for the Keysight Advisor Network Diagnostic Platform. The Keysight J5457A allows users to test WAN protocols on a frame-by-frame basis at speeds ranging from 50 bits per second (b/s) to 8.192 megabits per second (Mb/s). The J5457A supports most all legacy and modern WAN data link layers, including Frame Relay, X.25, HDLC, SDLC, and PPP. Therefore, the Protocol Analysis Interface is a required tool for performing diagnostics and troubleshooting on most all types of industrial networks that use a variety of WAN technologies. The module can be used as either the main analysis engine or in conjunction with other analysis engines. The J5457A can also connect to various types of data link layer devices through the use of compatible adapter cables such as V.35, X.21, and RS-449.
In industrial automation environments, the Keysight/Agilent J5457A is often used to perform detailed analysis of Frame Relay networks. The Protocol Analysis Interface allows users to verify the committed information rate (CIR), validate service level agreements (SLA's), and monitor vital signs of WAN circuits to identify when degradation occurs before actual failure. Additionally, advanced decoding features combined with the LMI expert feature allow engineers to quickly find the source of the problem by identifying both protocol mismatch problems and signaling problems. Furthermore, built-in traffic generation and ping generation tools allow engineers to simulate operational stress scenarios on their network segments without impacting live operation.
For automation engineers responsible for managing large area control networks, the J5457A provides the engineer with very detailed visibility into how well the data link layer functions within those networks.
