Keysight/Agilent J6803B Distributed Network Analyzer PRO
The J6803B from Keysight/Agilent is a distributed network analyzer (DNA) that allows users to perform both full-duplex protocol analysis and real-time fault isolation of high-speed Ethernet communications within industrial automation applications. With a built-in controller, a removable hard disk drive, and remote PC access capability, it includes the Keysight J6840A Network Analyzer for frame-level decode and general networking tests. In addition to the above-mentioned capabilities, the hardware-based acquisition capability of the J6803B DNA PRO enables users to acquire all of their line rate traffic 100% of the time as long as there are no errors or underutilization of the link. As such, users can identify intermittent faults in an automation cell or process control network without losing packets during the capture process.
The J6803B DNA PRO utilizes 32 simultaneous hardware capture filters, each filter being capable of filtering incoming frames at full line rate. Each hardware filter looks at the first 256 bytes of every frame. Filters may be defined by users using source and destination MAC addresses, IP header fields, FCS error counts, runt/jabber counts, and/or user-defined data pattern counts up to 64 bytes. After a frame has been captured by the hardware filters, users may apply additional filter refinement to the captured frames through software display filters. Thus, plant floor engineers can now easily pull the Profinet or EtherNet/IP control traffic out of a highly saturated stream without manually sifting through frames.
To allow for continued capture of network activity beyond the limited time of the internal buffers, the J6803B also supports the ability to continuously capture and stream filtered or non-filtered frames to external media through its Run-Time Store to Media (RTSM) function. Capture rates have reached sustained levels of 150 mbps over the dedicated gigabit ethernet interface. An additional 55 mbps interface available via the control/sync port is used to provide greater flexibility in how the unit is deployed. Continuous capture has proven extremely valuable in identifying sporadic network drops in SCADA systems as well as providing evidence of device compliance over multi-day production cycles. The compact size and portability, along with the remote operation features, enable industrial automation teams to deploy a ruggedized and field-ready tool to ensure deterministic network performance in very demanding plant-floor environments.
