Keysight/Agilent E8408A C-Size VXI Mainframe
The Keysight E8408A is a C-size VXI mainframe built to accommodate up to four VXI instrument modules. It provides a stable and reliable power backbone for demanding industrial test and measurement environments. The model accepts AC input from 90 to 264 Vac at 47 Hz to 66 Hz. It also supports 90 to 140 Vac at frequencies up to 440 Hz for wider frequency applications.
The total usable power output of this mainframe is directly dependent on the ambient operating temperature. At 0 °C to 40 °C, the mainframe delivers a maximum of 175 W to installed VXI modules. Between 40 °C and 50 °C, the available output power is reduced to a rated 150 W. The usable power is further reduced to 125 W to preserve thermal integrity from 50 °C to 55°C.
The front panel of the VXI mainframe includes a voltage indicator that monitors all VXI backplane voltage rails. A green state confirms that all seven voltage rails are operating within their defined acceptable ranges. These rails include + 5 V, + 12 V, - 12 V, + 24 V, - 24 V, - 5.2 V, and – 2 V, each with specified allowable variation limits. A flashing amber state signals that one or more rails have deviated beyond the defined variation boundaries.
The fault recovery on the E8408A C-size VXI mainframe is managed by removing the fault condition or cycling the on/standby power switch. Reconnecting AC power is also a valid recovery method when fault conditions persist after switch cycling. The model supports an operating temperature range from 0 °C to + 55 °C and storage from – 40 °C to + 70 °C. The non-condensing humidity tolerance is rated up to 95% RH at temperatures between 0°C and 40°C.
The temp indicator on the E8408A mainframe continuously tracks the thermal condition of the internal power supply. A green state indicates the supply temperature is within acceptable and safe operating limits. A flashing amber state signals that the supply is approaching thermal shutdown, requiring immediate operator intervention. The fan indicator monitors the mainframe cooling fan and displays flashing amber when the fan is not operating.
