Keysight/Agilent 1733A Fibre Channel Test Module
The Keysight 1733A is a four-port Fibre Channel test module that enables developers of Storage Area Networks (SANs) to perform validation of their fabric switches, Host Bus Adapters (HBAs), and storage targets. The 1733A is capable of simulating both data plane and fabric services simultaneously. This capability provides a significant increase in productivity by allowing developers to validate their products in parallel.
The 1733A's four ports are each fully independent. The 1733A can generate full duplex traffic on all four ports. In addition to generating traffic, the 1733A also analyzes the results of this traffic in real time. As such, the 1733A allows developers to create complex scenarios and measure how well HBAs, Fabric Switches, and Storage Targets operate in these scenarios. It is possible to measure performance when all ports are operating at maximum capacity. Without the need to pause measurements, it is now possible to measure fabric congestion issues that would previously have required stopping and restarting the measurement process.
Each port on the 1733A can be configured individually as either a source or a sink of Fibre Channel frames. These ports can also be used to inject faults into the data stream. For example, you can insert bit errors into the data stream. Similarly, you can force a "loss-of-sync" condition. You can use the fault insertion capabilities of the 1733A to verify how well your devices recover from errors. Real-time measurements include throughput, frame loss, latency, and buffer-to-buffer credit consumption. Because measurements are made in real-time, the developer has immediate feedback regarding port-level performance.
In addition to measuring frame count and throughput, the 1733A also monitors link-level integrity and reports on synchronization faults and disparity errors in real time. The 1733A controls link initialization using onboard port state machines. Therefore, the 1733A provides precise protocol conformance testing. The 1733A automatically performs name server testing. Additionally, it measures state change notification latency and failover recovery timing analysis. By automating these tests, developers can quickly determine if their fabrics will provide high availability.
