Keysight/Agilent U3052A SerialTek BusXpert PRO Protocol Analyzer
The U3052A SerialTek BusXpert PRO from Keysight/Agilent is a four-port SAS/SATA protocol analyzer that supports SAS/SATA data speeds of 1.5Gbps, 3.0Gbps, and 6.0Gbps using miniSAS connections. Engineers will find this tool indispensable while they are verifying the behavior of various types of storage devices as well as host bus adapters and backplane designs used in enterprise server, industrial automation, and high-performance computing applications that require strong communication of serial-attached storage. The U3052A has excellent signal capture capabilities due to its native PHY (physical layer) and its ability to restore signal quality utilizing an "eye-opening" front-end; it also features a fast re-lock capability, allowing for rapid recovery after loss of synchronization.
Data is transferred at extremely high speeds off of the U3052A via either a PCI Express X4 interface at speeds greater than 550 MBps or via Gigabit Ethernet at speeds greater than 70 MBps. Both interfaces allow for remote access to the device as well as uploading of large trace files. Additionally, the U3052A's trace buffer size may be expanded up to 36GB, providing continuous acquisition of long-duration events without having to re-trigger. There are also seven status LEDs per port that provide a means for quick visual troubleshooting. When performing multi-port tests, up to four units can be daisy-chained together. Timing and flexibility in regard to marginal signal conditions have been improved through both a 2ns timestamp resolution and user-adjustable RX/TX signaling. The device itself weighs approximately 10 lbs and measures 8.5 inches wide x 14 inches tall x 3.5 inches deep.
The U3052A Software Environment is based upon InstaSearch, which is a hardware-accelerated indexing engine designed to find any transaction immediately in a very large trace file. As such, Instasearch allows the pre-indexed and compressed trace data to eliminate delays while searching or viewing traces. The multiple views available for displaying decoded data include protocol layer decoded data, command sequence decoded data, bus transactions decoded data, and raw payload decoded data—and the results may be exported into either a CSV file, XML file or HTML File. Three sequencers are employed, with each having sixteen states. In addition, there are thirty-two counters/timers available along with nested branching capabilities for capturing hard-to-detect protocol violations. Definitions for triggers may be created by selecting frames directly from an open trace file. Bookmarking of specific locations within a trace file along with triggering from outside the analyzer greatly assist in collaborative debugging and reduce time spent in determining the cause of problems in complex storage environments.
