Keysight/Agilent U3053A SerialTek Micro SAS/SATA Error Injector / BIST Generator
The Keysight/Agilent U3053A enables storage developers and automation engineers to subject SAS and SATA links to deliberate fault injection in order to evaluate their robustness. It can be used as an inline jammer at speeds of 1.5, 3.0, and 6.0 Gbps and is able to introduce both protocol layer and physical layer faults (CRC, 8b10b encoding, running disparity, etc.) into active link traffic. It provides a way to simulate various types of signal degradation which occur in the field on the links of hosts, drives, and embedded controllers, by stressing them with these faults over long periods of time. The base unit has two bidirectional error injection ports; however, license options exist to allow users to purchase licenses based on the number of ports needed per test, the speed of each port required and/or the protocols supported.
In addition to providing license options for its error injection capabilities, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is provided using the BusXpert tool set. The GUI will enable users to script fault scenarios (both logical and physical), allowing for link connects/disconnects, CRC errors introduced into frames at regular/deterministic/Random intervals, frame level modifications including substitution of primitive bytes/payload replacement with or without regenerating CRC/checksums and deletion/substitution of DWords within a frame. Additionally, the ability to perform logical branches within scripted test flows allows users to develop test scripts that have characteristics similar to those seen in intermittent field issues. This makes the Keysight/Agilent U3053A an ideal product for reproducing elusive customer reported issues.
Also available on the U3053A is the option to add a SATA BIST generator. When this option is selected, it converts the Error Injector/BIST Generator into a complete compliance stimulus source for SATA interfaces. With the added BIST feature, connected drives/host bus adapters are forced into loopback test modes, enabling users to verify that the physical layers of the SATA interface have enough "margin" before they fail when tested along with a BER Tester and FER counter. Thusly, customers are able to completely test SATA PHY compliance without requiring any external pattern generators.
