Keysight/Agilent M9121A PXI High-Density Matrix Switch
The Keysight/Agilent M9121A is an ultra-dense PXI Matrix Switch Module, which has a 4-row x 64-column (full-crosspoint) arrangement with 256 two-pole, 2-wire Reed Relays. As a single-slot PXI card, the M9121A is designed to allow for rapid signal routing of instrumentation and devices under test (DUT), thus providing excellent flexibility for the design of very dense automated test systems. The crosspoint architecture of the M9121A makes it possible to select any row to connect to any column; therefore, the user is able to establish flexible paths for both the stimulus and measurement signals.
The M9121A uses reed relay technology to provide switching up to 100 VRMS @ 0.5 A RMS and 10 watts per channel. The sub-millisecond actuation time enables the matrix switch to meet demanding throughput requirements for test sequences. The path resistances are approximately 900 milliohms, while the thermal offsets are about 6 microvolts. Due to its 10 MHz bandwidth, the M9121A provides medium-frequency signal routing with minimal signal degradation. All connections on the M9121A are consolidated into a single 200-pin latched female header connector, which simplifies cabling. Relay endurance for the switch has been tested to reach low-power cycle counts of 1 × 10? and full-load cycle counts of 1 × 10?. Multiple M9121A cards may be cascaded together using their four-wire bus to create larger matrices, such as a 4x128.
The M9121A is well suited to aerospace, defense, automotive, semiconductor, and medical device test applications that require high pin count switching. In functional testing, parametric measurement, and signal distribution where isolation is critical, the device excels. Channel-to-channel and channel-to-ground isolation is maintained at greater than 1 × 10¹? ohms when operating under standard laboratory conditions. Even at 80% relative humidity, channel-to-channel and channel-to-ground isolation of the M9121A remains greater than 1 × 10? ohms, therefore preventing leakage currents from corrupting sensitive readings. Micro-volt-level signal measurements will also benefit from the switch's 6 µV thermal offset.
Integration of the software is facilitated using supplied IVI-COM, IVI-C, and LabView Drivers. Example Code is also provided for use with MATLAB, Visual Studio, and Lab Windows/CVI. The Soft Front Panel enables Manual Control and Debugging capabilities immediately after software installation. The M9121A from Keysight/Agilent is PXI Compliant and can be installed in both PXI and PXIe Hybrid Chassis ensuring easy scaling within Multi-Vendor Automated Test Environments.
