Keysight/Agilent M9405A PXIe RF Amplifier
Keysight’s M9405A is a wide-band PXIe RF amplifier module that has a coverage of 300 KHz through 26.5 GHz or 50 GHz. This product is supplied with two different gain options; Option F26 supplies a minimum of +27 dB gain from 300 kHz to 26.5 GHz with a noise figure of 7 dB using a 3.5 mm connector. For applications requiring wider bandwidths than the F26 option supports, the F50 option supplies a minimum of +24 dB gain through 50 GHz, a noise figure of 9 dB, and a 2.4 mm connector. The M9405A has a compact single-slot 3U PXIe form factor that will fit into both hybrid and PXIe chassis. With its low power consumption of just 3W, this product is very well suited for use in large numbers of automated test equipment that have limited space in which to install components.
The Keysight M9405A was designed to operate in conjunction with the M9403A and M9404A optical links in RF over fiber applications. As such, it can function as a pre-amplifier ahead of the optical transmitter in order to reduce the overall system noise figure and therefore improve the overall sensitivity of distributed antenna systems (DAS). On the other hand, it could function as an amplifier post-optical receiver to offset the link conversion losses, thereby restoring the original amplitude of the signal. Furthermore, the Keysight M9405A can be ordered as a factory-integrated option within those optical links or as a stand-alone general-purpose gain block.
The typical input compression points for the M9405A were measured consistently. The device shows no measurable compression point at -22 dBm (-0.1 dB) up to 26.5 GHz; however, due to manufacturing tolerances, there is slight degradation up to 50 GHz at -20 dBm (-0.1 dB) and it demonstrates compression to 1 dB at -13 dBm @ 10 GHz and -14 dBm @ 26.5 GHz. The input return loss is at least 10 dB for the F26 option and 5 dB for F50. In addition, the maximum safe input power level is -10 dBm. Due to its performance, the Keysight M9405A is an ideal component for wide-band signal conditioning in various areas, including semiconductor characterization as well as aerospace defense testing when maintaining signal integrity through coaxial or fiber links is crucial.
