Keysight/Agilent M9149A PXI High-Density RF Multiplexer
The Keysight/Agilent M9149A has all the capabilities necessary to be a complete 1x16 radio frequency (RF) multiplexer within a PXI module that fits in a single slot and allows bi-directional switching up to 3 GHz. It also matches the standard 50 ohm impedance required to route RF signals to such devices as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc., and will allow these devices to function properly as part of a fully automated test system. Engineers typically use this module in such applications as semiconductor testing, wireless device manufacturing testing, or simply where there is a need for the ability to repeatedly switch multiple RF channels to a variety of measurement instrumentation.
Inside the Keysight M9149A module is an electromechanical switch that has forty decibels of isolation at 1 GHz and only 1.3 decibels of insertion loss at 3 GHz. This preserves signal quality while providing a minimum amount of attenuation. Additionally, the very low voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) provides less than 2 percent reflection of the input signal and is critical for producing reliable power measurement results across the full range of frequencies. Each channel can handle up to thirty volts DC, one ampere DC, and ten watts RF. Also, the typical time for opening and closing each relay is approximately 3 ms. If operated under conditions of low signal level, the relay will last through ten million cycles of operation. This makes it suitable for use in high cycle count test applications.
Each of the six high-bandwidth channels also has a set of high-quality SMB snap-on connectors on the front panel. These make attaching cables easy and ensure consistent contact. The design of all paths through the multiplexers was done so that they would provide repeatable RF characteristics, which is necessary for generating reliable measurement data. Software integration is also made simple by the availability of Keysight's software development kits (SDKs) for Visual Studio, C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, MATLAB, and LabVIEW. Keysight's Connection Expert tool, along with a soft front panel, provides rapid access to setting up and configuring the multiplexer.
