Keysight/Agilent M9164A 2X16 PXIe Switch Matrix
The Keysight M9164A PXIe solid-state switch matrix delivers a complete 2x16 crossbar from 300 kHz to 6.5 GHz with fully programmable routing capabilities, making it perfect for automated test applications on the RF/microwave level. By integrating directly with the m980xa series VNAs, the m9164a enables a switch-based multi-port VNA solution. With this capability, the user will be able to characterize their 5G massive MIMO antennas and also perform parallel device testing. Due to its non-blocking crossbar design, up to any two ports can be simultaneously connected to the common inputs, which maximizes throughput in production environments. This compact 2-slot switch matrix module allows the user to perform high-volume multi-DUT measurement without external switching.
In contrast to conventional mechanical relays, the M9164A utilizes solid-state switching technology to achieve ultra-fast transition times and virtually unlimited operating life, resulting in a lower cost of test. At any given time there are only two active RF paths, while all remaining 14 ports remain terminated at 50 ohms, thereby ensuring port-to-port isolation characteristics that will prevent crosstalk in dense ATE systems. Additionally, temperature compensation has been built-in to maintain stable performance and reduce the need for frequent recalibration. Each unused port is internally terminated at 50 ohms, preventing reflections and maintaining signal integrity throughout the entire frequency range.
The M9164A simplifies control using an included soft front panel and IVI-compliant drivers. This enables easy integration into automated test sequences. The M9164A includes a built-in "connect check" feature that verifies the continuity of all possible switch paths, thereby increasing confidence levels of measurements without the use of any additional instruments. Users can dynamically reconfigure their signal pathways to test multiple devices in parallel, resulting in acceleration of throughput rates in 5G and massive MIMO production. Due to the compact PXIe form factor of the M9164A, it may be installed directly alongside other modular instruments within a chassis, saving rack space and easing system synchronization. As a full crossbar matrix, it eliminates the requirement for multiple discrete switch stages. Therefore, complexity within the overall system is reduced, and consistent routing will be realized during wireless validation.
