Keysight/Agilent M9241A PXIe 200 MHz Oscilloscope
Keysight's M9241A PXIe modular oscilloscope provides an actual 200 MHz bandwidth and benchtop-quality intelligence in a compact PXIe module for use in automated test racks. The onboard MegaZoom IV ASIC processes waveform math, serial protocol decoding, and mask testing directly in hardware and takes some load off the host CPU. At over one million waveforms/sec update rate, the M9241A can expose very rare signal faults, which will be undetectable by software-based digitizers, thereby increasing fault coverage in industrial data acquisition systems.
The M9241A has two analog input channels with ≤1.75 ns rise times; they sample at 5 GSa/s interleaved (one channel) or 2.5 GSa/s (both). They have 4M pts of memory. Inputs are selectable as either 1 MΩ or 50 Ω and have Auto-Probe support for accepting passive, differential, and current probes. Waveform averaging on the M9241A increases the vertical resolution from 10 bits to 12 bits. In addition to being able to average waveforms, the M9241A is capable of housing several other test functions such as a 3-digit DVM, an 8-digit counter, a hardware-accelerated FFT-based spectrum analyzer, and a 20 MHz arbitrary waveform generator all within one PXI slot.
Using the exclusive Zone Touch Trigger function of the M9241A allows engineers to isolate faults more quickly than using traditional methods. The Zone Touch Trigger function uses a simple box drawn on a touchscreen to capture difficult-to-identify events without having to perform a lot of setup. Using the hardware-based serial protocol decoders on the M9241A, engineers can monitor I²C, UART, CAN, LIN, and CXPI communications in real-time and display the decoded information overlaid on top of the original analog waveform. The segmented memory feature of the M9241A allows engineers to store up to 1000 different trigger events and then re-arm at 1-microsecond intervals, allowing engineers to capture and evaluate bursty communication faults and short-lived power anomalies.
Common applications of the M9241A include end-of-line manufacturing test equipment, semiconductor characterization systems, and embedded system debugging. Engineers typically use the M9241A to measure power rail integrity, verify serial bus timing, and capture transient conditions on motor drive circuits and sensor interface circuits. Since the M9241A performs most of the critical processing within its ASIC, test sequences operate in a deterministic manner and do not contend for resources on the back plane, resulting in high throughput when used in conjunction with other modules in dense PXI chassis configurations.
