Keysight M9404A PXIe Optical Receiver
The Keysight M9404A PXIe Optical Receiver is a high-performance, compact RF-over-fiber module that recovers RF signals previously sent via optical fibers and converts these back into an electrical RF signal. As the optical-to-RF portion of a full fiber link (alongside the Keysight M9403A), this module creates a complete RF-optical-RF signal path suitable for complex microwave test systems. When there is a requirement for RF signals to be transmitted over large distances, or through very noisy electrically driven areas, or simply to keep the measurement system separate from the signal being measured, this type of architecture has many advantages.
The Keysight M9404A offers a wide-band operating range from 300 kHz up to either 26.5 GHz or 50 GHz depending upon the chosen frequency option. As a single-slot, 3U PXIe module, it may be easily integrated into any standard PXI chassis, making it simple to add to your current modular test platform. Additionally, the M9404A may be ordered as a basic optical-to-RF converter or as a version with an internal amplifier to enhance link sensitivity and help counteract losses associated with the optical transmission path. A 50-ohm RF interface is provided by the unit; in addition, the recovered signal will be available at the output connector with consistent performance characteristics throughout the specified band.
In applications such as antenna ranges, distributed RF measurement systems, satellite earth station communications, and EMI chamber measurements, where there is both a need to send RF signals greater than 1.5 km along a fiber run and achieve galvanic separation between the source and receiver components of the measurement chain, the Keysight M9404A provides a means to do so while maintaining flexibility and scalability within the measurement chain. In addition, due to its ability to provide long-haul signal transport with minimal degradation, the Keysight M9404A also lends itself well to use in laboratory and system test environments that require uncorrupted signal transport, remote location of instrumentation, and/or minimized interference between source and receiver devices.
Through its combination of high-frequency bandwidth coverage, PXIe modularity, and fiber-based signal transport capabilities, the Keysight M9404A enables new RF/microwave test workflows that emphasize long reach, electrical isolation, and simplified system expansion.
