As part of the PXIe-4144 series, National Instruments offers the 782432-01, an advanced 4-channel Source Measure Unit (SMU). The accurate four-quadrant operation of this device makes it suitable for applications with a large pin count. Integrated remote (4-wire) sensing is a feature of every 782432-01 channel that compensates for voltage drops in the test leads to provide an accurate measurement.
The quick sample rate of the 782432-01, which drastically shortens measurement durations, is designed to improve efficiency in testing applications. In order to quickly perform I-V characterizations of devices under test (DUTs) and capture transient device characteristics, this capability is required. Synchronization with other SMUs or instruments, like switches and high-speed digital test modules, is made possible by the unit's high-speed sequencing engine, which facilitates a unified and efficient testing procedure.
When configured for a fast transient response, the device shows a settling time of less than 100 μs to stabilize to 0.1% of a voltage step. Furthermore, it recovers within ±20 mV following a load current change from 10% to 90% of its range in less than 100 μs as a transient response time. Furthermore, under usual circumstances, the wideband source noise is negligible, measuring 1.5 mV RMS and less than 20 mV peak-to-peak.
The 782432-01 ensures excellent load regulation, with a voltage regulation of 10 μV at the connector pins per mA of output load when using local sense. Even when employing local sense, it maintains 20 pA + 1 ppm of the range per volt of output change for current regulation. Because of its accuracy, it is a great fit for applications that need precise and steady power delivery.
The unit complies with CAT I safety standards, as confirmed by a dielectric withstand test conducted over a five-second period, with an isolation voltage of 60 VDC from channel to earth ground. Safe functioning within designated limits is ensured by a continuous absolute maximum voltage of 20 VDC between any terminal and the LO.
In terms of power needs, the unit takes 2.1 A from the 12 V rail and 2.9 A from the 3.3 V rail of a PXI Express framework. Without overloading the power source, this small power profile guarantees compatibility with current PXI systems.
