National Instruments 785082-01 Backshell Kit

Part Number 785082-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments NI-9939 Backshell Kit. It is designed to work with a range of NI devices like the NI-9485, NI-9924, NI-9928, NI-9436, and NI-9217. The use of a backshell kit is to protect the user from electric shocks and hazards during the operation of the said devices. The 785082-01 kit can be used with any 16-position screw terminal connector blocks. 

There is a second part number variation, the 192692-01, which is the idenifying number for the kit that is used in spring terminal connections. The 785082-01 backshell kit also helps to hold the cables in the right position, which makes it useful for applications involving rigid connections and a flexible cable. Note that a backshell kit can only secure a single 16-position screw terminal which means if there are more than one 16-position screw terminals, you will need an extra kit. 

The 785082-01 is one of the safety measures to protect the device and the operator from hazardous voltages. When using the kit with a device such as the NI-9928, there are other multiple precautions that the user must take. Hazardous voltages, in the context of NI-9928, are those voltages that exceed 42.4 Vpk voltage or 60 VDC to earth ground. First, you should avoid mixing hazardous voltage circuits and human-accessible circuits on the same module. Likewise, the hazardous voltage wiring should only be performed by a trained professional and you should ensure proper insulation between the operator and the circuits connected to the module.
