National Instruments 777794-01 PXI Analog Output Module
The NI 777794-01 (model name PXI-6711) analog output module is designed for high-speed signal generation and precise control of your application in a PXI-based T&M system. The module updates all four channels simultaneously at speeds of up to 1MS/s over a voltage range of -10V to +10V, providing the necessary time accuracy for demanding control and waveform applications. Many engineers prefer this module rather than large and expensive standalone instruments, such as proportional-integral-derivative controllers, function generators, and low-speed arbitrary waveform generators. In addition to providing space savings by adding instruments together in one instrument (singular PXI chassis slot), this module provides additional advantages such as increased reliability, improved maintenance, lower cost, and so on.
In addition to generating the basic analog waveforms (sine, square, sawtooth, etc.), the 777794-01 allows users to construct waveforms that may be more than simple standards. Users can create their own custom waveform or use a built-in waveform generator to provide user-defined signals for stimulus-response tests of various types (power supplies, sensors, etc.). As each D/A converter can reference either an internal 10 V source or an external source via the EXTREF pin (as long as the input remains within ±11 V), there is significant flexibility in how users will establish the gain relationship between the output signal and the input signal. There are also eight 5 V TTL/CMOS digital input/output lines available that can be individually programmed to support whatever configuration is desired. Additionally, there are two counters/timers, both of which are 24-bit and operate at 20 MHz. These counters/timers can be used to count pulses or measure time intervals.
The timing and synchronization of the outputs from the 777794-01 are accomplished using the RTSI bus. The RTSI bus enables multiple modules to communicate with each other so that they may coordinate their output times. The programmable function input pins allow users to interface with the outside world and send triggers and/or receive them. The features and capabilities of the module make it suitable for a variety of applications, including automated test benches, industrial control loops, and data acquisition systems that require determinate multi-channel analog output as well as digital I/O and counting functionality, all within a compact PXI module.
