National Instruments 777154-01 IEEE 488.2 Interface Board
The National Instruments 777154-01 is an AT-GPIB/TNT (IEEE 488) interface board that was developed by National Instruments for use within PCs having ISA expansion slots. The 777154-01 is built using National Instruments' TNT family ASIC and completely complies with the IEEE 488.2 standard. As such, this board can be configured as either a talker, listener, or controller device for transferring data from one end of the bus to another and can sustain data transfer rates greater than 1.5 MB/sec via the IEEE 488.1 3-wire handshake. This board also has an implementation of the HS488 high-speed GPIB protocol, which makes it suitable for demanding test and measurement environments where GPIB communications speed is paramount.
The 777154-01 is available in three different configurations. The first of these is the AT-GPIB/TNT Plug & Play version. In this version of the board, all jumper settings are eliminated and rely instead upon the Automatic Resource Allocation procedure performed by the system during boot-up to assign hardware resources (I/O address, DMA channel, and interrupt level). The second configuration is the Legacy AT-GPIB/TNT. This configuration requires users to configure hardware resources (via jumper settings/DIP switch settings) to support a wide variety of operating systems, including DOS, OS/2, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, and Windows 3.1. The third configuration is the AT-GPIB/TNT+. This configuration includes both a full GPIB controller function and an embedded GPIB analyzer function on a single printed circuit card. Users can capture and monitor GPIB bus traffic (up to 1.6 MB/sec) while simultaneously troubleshooting issues with addressing conflicts, protocol violations, and bus timeouts without additional hardware.
The National Instruments 777154-01 is utilized in many applications where there exists a need to have multiple IEEE 488-compliant devices communicate with each other through a host computer. Examples include automated test systems, laboratory instrumentation setups, industrial data acquisition applications, etc. The 777154-01 is shipped with NI-488.2 software; however, users of the AT-GPIB/TNT+ will receive, in addition to the aforementioned NI-488.2 software, a graphical analyzer application for real-time viewing of GPIB control and data line activity.
