National Instruments 779516-02 16-Bit Analog Input Module

The National Instruments 779516-02 is an enclosed, conformal-coated C Series current input module designed for industrial environments where equipment may be exposed to dust, moisture, vibration, and other harsh conditions. It is part of the NI-9203 family and provides eight current input channels for data acquisition and monitoring applications. The conformal coating protects the internal circuitry from environmental contaminants, making the module suitable for demanding plant-floor and outdoor installations.

The 779516-02 provides eight single-ended analog input channels, with each channel supporting sampling rates of up to 200 kS/s at 16-bit resolution. The inputs support a current range of -20 mA to +20 mA, with 0–20 mA operation available for applications such as current-loop sensors. A 250 Vrms channel-to-earth isolation barrier helps protect the module and connected equipment from electrical transients and interference. Each channel also includes overvoltage protection to help prevent damage caused by wiring errors or unexpected voltage spikes.

The module uses a screw-terminal connection for field wiring and can be installed in compatible CompactRIO and CompactDAQ chassis. Its current inputs make it suitable for monitoring 4–20 mA transmitters, process instrumentation, and feedback signals used in industrial control systems. Typical applications include pressure, temperature, and flow monitoring, as well as motor current measurement and other process-control tasks where reliable current measurements are required.

The 779516-02 can be configured and operated using NI software tools, including NI-DAQmx and Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). It can also be integrated into applications developed with LabVIEW, C/C++, C#, and VB.NET. With its eight-channel input configuration, 16-bit resolution, 200 kS/s maximum sampling rate, electrical isolation, and conformal-coated construction, the 779516-02 is well suited for current measurement in demanding industrial data acquisition systems.
