National Instruments 779994-02 C Series Strain/Bridge Input Module
The National Instruments 779994-02 is an 8-channel NI-9236 C Series strain/bridge input module designed for high-speed dynamic strain measurements. All eight channels can be sampled simultaneously at rates of up to 10 kS/s per channel, allowing measurements from multiple strain gauges to be precisely compared at the same point in time without the phase differences that can occur with sequential sampling.
The module is designed for quarter-bridge strain gauge configurations with a fixed 350 Ω bridge resistance. It provides a differential input range of ±29.4 mV/V and includes the voltage excitation required for quarter-bridge strain gauge measurements, eliminating the need for a separate external excitation source. Spring-terminal connections on the front of the module make it straightforward to connect strain gauges and other compatible sensors.
For use in demanding environments, the 779994-02 features a conformal-coated enclosure that provides additional protection against moisture and contaminants. The module offers 60 VDC channel-to-earth isolation and 1,000 V RMS transient isolation, helping protect the measurement system and reduce the effects of electrical interference.
The 779994-02 connects through the C Series bus, allowing it to be integrated into compact data acquisition and CompactRIO systems. This makes it easy to add strain measurement capabilities to existing National Instruments systems without requiring a separate measurement platform.
The module is well suited to applications involving structural testing, material impact and fatigue studies, aerospace and automotive load testing, and strain measurement on vehicles and other structures under different operating conditions. Because all eight channels are sampled simultaneously, engineers can accurately compare the response of multiple strain gauges during rapidly changing events.
With an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +70 °C, the 779994-02 is designed to provide reliable performance in both laboratory environments and demanding field applications. Its combination of simultaneous sampling, built-in quarter-bridge excitation, electrical isolation, and environmental protection makes it a practical solution for dynamic strain measurement in research, testing, and industrial applications.
