The National Instruments 780176-01 is a 32-channel sinking-input C Series digital module designed for use with National Instruments CompactDAQ and CompactRIO systems. The module is conformally coated to provide additional protection against moisture, dust, and other airborne contaminants, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments. It features a 7 µs input filter and uses a 37-pin D-SUB connector for connecting digital field signals. As an input-only module, all 32 channels are dedicated to digital signal acquisition.
The 780176-01 accepts 12 to 24 VDC logic levels and is well suited for monitoring industrial switches, sensors, and other field devices. Typical applications include monitoring proximity sensors, limit switches, transducers, and 24 VDC equipment in automated control systems. Each input provides up to 60 VDC of channel-to-earth isolation, helping protect the system from ground loops, electrical noise, and voltage transients while maintaining reliable signal acquisition.
The module is designed for applications that require a high density of isolated digital inputs. Its conformal coating and wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C make it suitable for factory automation, machine monitoring, and other applications where exposure to humidity or airborne contaminants is a concern. When integrated into a CompactDAQ or CompactRIO system, the 780176-01 can be configured and programmed using National Instruments software development tools such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio.
The C Series Digital Module is intended for digital status monitoring rather than counting applications; when installed in a CompactDAQ chassis, it cannot be used as a counter. Its 32 isolated input channels provide a practical solution for monitoring multiple field devices while reducing the amount of hardware required in an industrial control or data acquisition system.
