To eliminate signal ringing and electrical noise in noisy industrial settings, every line includes programmable digital input filtering, adjustable from disabled up to 5.24 ms in precise 80 ns increments.
Electrical input specifications adapt dynamically based on the configured mode. In differential mode, the module accepts a 0 V to 5 V range (input high from 200 mV to 5 V; input low from -200 mV to -5 V) operating without hysteresis for rapid threshold transitions. In single-ended mode, the input range spans 0 V to 24 V with per-channel software-programmable thresholds from 1 V to 4 V (20 mV resolution, 12% maximum threshold error) and a fixed 500 mV hysteresis for clean edge detection. Signal propagation delay remains under 310 ns maximum, with a channel-to-channel skew kept within 220 ns across all inputs to maintain precise timing alignment.
Current draw and electrical protection are optimized for direct sensor interfaces, drawing a maximum input current of 50 µA per terminal with a 5 V input, and up to 1.5 mA per terminal with a 24 V input on DI+. Front-end circuitry incorporates simultaneous overvoltage protection up to +30 V across all eight DI+ terminals, clamping input current limits to 2.3 mA maximum on DI+ and 3 mA maximum on DI- under fault conditions. By delivering high-resolution 32-bit counter capacity, flexible logic thresholding, and conformal-coated durability in a standard C Series module, the NI-9361 provides an ideal solution for quadrature encoders, PWM decoding, frequency counting, and totalization applications.
