The National Instruments 783906-01 (NI-9482) is a 4-channel electromechanical relay output module engineered for switching high-power resistive loads in industrial automation, control, and automated test applications. Compatible with CompactRIO controllers, CompactDAQ chassis, and C Series expansion chassis, the module features four independent Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) Form A relay channels designed with a safe power-on default state of channels off (normally open). Wiring is facilitated through a removable 10-position screw terminal connector, providing two dedicated, interchangeable terminal pins (CHa and CHb) per channel with support for 2-wire ferrules to ensure reliable, multi-wire connections.
Each output channel includes a dedicated front-panel LED status indicator that illuminates when the relay contact is energized and extinguishes when de-energized. During system idle periods, the module supports a low-power sleep mode—dependent on host chassis capabilities—that automatically disables status LEDs to minimize overall system energy consumption. Electrical parameters support switching voltages up to 60 VDC or 250 Vrms, with switching current capacity scaled based on active channels: up to 2.5 A at 30 VDC and 1.5 A at 250 Vrms with one channel active, 2.0 A at 30 VDC with two channels active, and 1.5 A at 30 VDC with all four channels energized simultaneously.
Designed for long-term reliability in industrial environments, the module exhibits a low closed-contact resistance of 0.2 Ω and an off-state leakage current below 10 µA. Contact switching performance specs include a maximum operate time of 15 ms, a release time of 10 ms, and a contact bounce duration under 3 ms at a maximum switching rate of 1 Hz (one operation per second). Built to withstand high-duty cycles, the electromechanical relays offer a mechanical service life of 20,000,000 operations under no-load conditions and an electrical endurance rating of 100,000 operations at full rated load.
