The National Instruments 785194-01 (NI-9485) is an 8-channel C Series solid-state relay (SSR) output module engineered for fast, reliable switching in high-duty-cycle industrial control and automated test applications. Featuring eight independent Normally Open (NO) solid-state channels, the module handles switching voltages up to 60 VDC or 30 Vrms. Individual channel current capacity supports up to 0.75 A continuous, with up to four channels capable of simultaneous switching at up to 1.2 A per channel. Built for long-term operational durability without the mechanical wear of traditional relays, the SSR architecture maintains a 1 Hz switching rate at a 90% duty cycle, delivering rapid response times with a typical close time of 9.0 ms and an open time of 0.5 ms.
Designed with exceptional channel and system isolation, the NI-9485 features a low closed-channel resistance below 200 mΩ and an open-channel leakage current of just 30 µA typical. Channel-to-channel isolation is continuously rated to 1,000 Vrms up to an operating altitude of 5,000 meters. Channel-to-earth ground isolation is rated to 250 Vrms (Measurement Category II) up to 2,000 meters and 60 VDC (Measurement Category I) up to 5,000 meters, with dielectric withstand safety verified through 5-second factory testing up to 2,300 Vrms. Power draw directly from the CompactRIO or CompactDAQ backplane remains extremely efficient at 500 mW maximum in active mode (1.5 W maximum thermal dissipation at 70 °C), dropping to 5 mW maximum in system sleep mode.
Constructed for harsh industrial environments, the module features an IP40 ingress protection rating, Pollution Degree 2 classification, and an extended operating temperature range from -40 °C to 70 °C (-40 °C to 85 °C storage). Tolerating non-condensing relative humidity levels from 10% to 90% during operation (5% to 95% storage), the 785194-01 provides robust, bounce-free switching performance across extreme environmental conditions and high-altitude deployments.
