National Instruments 777318-210 Analog Output Module for Compact FieldPoint

National Instruments part number 777318-210 is an identifying part number for the cFP-AO-210, an Analog Output Module for Compact FieldPoint with 8 channels and 12 bits of DAC resolution. Each channel provides a voltage source capable of supplying up to 1 mA. The model allows the user to obtain more than 10 mA by using an optional external power supply of 30 and 15 VDC. Additionally, the model has an all-channel update rate of 200 Hz. The NI 777318-210 receives operating power from the terminal base, while the current loop power is supplied externally.

Each channel has an output terminal named Vout, a common terminal (COM), and a supply terminal (Vsup). All COM terminals of the channels are internally connected to each other and to the C terminals. The factory default power-up setting for each channel is 0 V. Moreover, this module has an over-ranging value of 0.2 V, giving each channel a real full-scale range of 0–10.2 V. This extended range helps this output module to compensate for offset and gain errors in field devices. Each channel includes a monitoring circuit that detects the current flowing in or out. If the current exceeds the maximum allowed value (1 mA without an external supply; 10 mA with an external supply), the circuit lights a red STATUS indicator for the affected channel, reports the error to the system module, and adjusts the output voltage to ensure only the maximum permitted current flows.

The error is reported before the output is adjusted. The device has a maximum conversion rate of 200 updates per second and a slew rate of 0.5 V/µs. Compact FieldPoint modules have a built-in power distribution bus with multiple power connections. A field-wired power supply connected to the voltage (V) and common (C) terminals is internally linked to this bus, providing additional breakout terminals for voltage supply (VSUP) and common (COM). These terminals offer a convenient way to distribute power to field devices that require external power.
