National Instruments 779463-01 Backplane for Compact FieldPoint

The National Instruments 779463-01, also known as the cFP-1808, is an 8-slot Ethernet/serial backplane that can be used to link RS232 serial ports or high-speed Ethernet networks to Compact FieldPoint I/O modules. In addition to NI's own event-driven Ethernet/serial protocols, this backplane is essential for integrating a variety of third-party protocols, such as Modbus TCP, Optomux, Modbus ASCII, Modbus RTU, and OPC. It guarantees smooth control and communication in industrial automation systems.

With 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps communication speeds that automatically adjust based on network conditions, the 779463-01 backplane provides a strong network interface that complies with IEEE802.3 standards. It also supports 10BaseT and 100BaseTX Ethernet. A flexible installation is possible in a variety of industrial contexts thanks to the maximum cabling lengths per segment of 100 meters. A maximum of 9 W of power can be supplied by the backplane to I/O modules; the number of banks that can be used depends on the particular network topology that is being used.

The 779463-01 has one RS-232 (DCE) port with a baud rate of 300 to 115,200 bps, eight data bits, one stop bit, and no flow control or parity for serial connectivity. Through a serial interface, this port provides flexible communication possibilities by granting access to FieldPoint I/O modules' I/O and configuration settings.

One of the most important aspects of the 779463-01 is its isolation voltage, which has been verified by a dielectric withstand test. With a maximum withstand voltage of 2,300 Vrms for five seconds, the module to backplane isolation voltage is rated at 250 Vrms constantly. This protects the operators and the equipment by guaranteeing the backplane operates safely in Measurement Category II situations.

Configuration and IP address assignment for this part are streamlined using National Instruments' Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) software and the NI-FieldPoint driver. This software suite facilitates easy setup and management of the backplane and its connected modules.
