National Instruments Vehicle Temperature Bundle
The National Instruments Vehicle Temperature Bundle (Part Numbers: 866576-03C, 866576-03) is a custom-made Data Acquisition System that is created to diagnose thermal performance in internal combustion engine vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs). The Vehicle Temperature Bundle is a fully integrated system consisting of a CompactDAQ chassis containing a Vehicle Multiprotocol Interface Module (NI-9860) and a High-Density Temperature Input Module (NI-9213). The chassis acts as the central platform, the NI-9860 connects the user to the vehicle's networks, and the NI-9213 measures temperatures on a precise scale.
Engineers use this Vehicle Temperature Bundle to collect detailed temperature information from all areas of the vehicle (i.e., EV batteries, electric motors, etc.). The main purpose is to find and confirm solutions to temperature-related failures or faults of heating/cooling systems (i.e., too much heat, not enough cooling, etc.) so that the vehicle will be reliable and safe for operation. Each of the 16 channels of the NI-9213 are thermocouples, can sample at rates up to 100 samples per second per channel, have an accuracy of ±0.8°C, and provide high-resolution data for diagnostic purposes. In addition to acquiring temperature data, the NI-9860 also acquires data from vehicle networks using either CAN (Controller Area Network) or LIN (Local Interconnect Network) protocols, which enables the simultaneous acquisition of temperature and vehicle network data. Together, these allow engineers to understand the behavior of the entire vehicle system.
The 866576-03 Bundle provides a comprehensive and strong base of high-end NI software solutions that support in-depth analysis as well as LabVIEW for real-time control of systems, display of data, and DIAdem for data analysis. The bundle also supports the use of DIAdem for time waveform analysis and frequency analysis that allows the user to make meaningful decisions based on temperature data that has been captured. The integration of rugged, reliable hardware and highly capable software allows for the creation of a strong validation tool for the thermal performance of vehicles, and a diagnostic tool for identifying difficult to diagnose issues throughout the entire vehicle development process and testing phase.
