National Instruments 781787-11 CompactRIO Controller

Part number 781787-11 from National Instruments is the version of the cRIO-9081 CompactRIO Controller with an Intel Celeron U3405 processor that runs Windows Embedded Standard 7 (WES7). The powerful processor of the 781787-11 features two cores and has a CPU frequency of 1.06 GHz. Embedded operating systems such as the WES7 are useful for customizing the OS to the specific modules that are applicable to a project.

The reconfigurable Xilinx Spartan-6 LX75 FPGA of the 781787-11 features 93,296 flip-flops and 46,648 6-input LUTs. It features an incredible 3,096 kbits of available block RAM, and can support up to 32 logical interrupts.

For network and Ethernet connectivity, the 781787-11 offers 2 ports with support for 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, and 1000Base-T Ethernet interfaces. The communication rates of the 781787-11 are auto-negotiated at either 10, 100, or 1,000 Mbit/s. The maximum cabling distance is 100 meters per segment.

The 781787-11 features screw-terminal connectivity, with each screw terminal accommodating one wire that is secure by screw flanges. These screw-terminal connections have with a gauge of 2.0 mm² to 3.0 mm² (14 AWG to 12 AWG) for copper conductor wire.  

The 781787-11 is designed for optimal functionality in a wide variety of environmental conditions, including altitudes of up to 2,000 meters. It is capable of operating fully within a temperature range of 0°C and 45°C (32°F and 113°F). However, if the 781787-11 is used in conjunction with the NI panel mount kit, the operating temperature range can be extended by a couple degrees so that it ranges instead from 0°C to 55°C (32°F to 131°F). 

The protect the 781787-11 from environmental damage while in storage and to ensure durability, the controller should be kept within a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C (-40 °F to 185 °F).
