National Instruments 777384-01 Multifunction Data Acquisition Card
The National Instruments 777384-01 is a PCI-6030E multifunction data acquisition (D/A) card designed for use in a variety of standard desktop and tower PCs. In addition to being known as a PCI-MIO-16XE-10, this product provides analog input, analog output, digital input/output, and counter/timer functionality on one card and offers a convenient option for various types of instrumentation and control applications. This product allows up to sixteen single-ended or eight differential analog input channels to provide 16 bits of resolution with sample ranges of ±0.1 V to ±10 V. The maximum sampling rate for the 777384-01 is 100 kil samples per second. There are two 16-bit analog output channels available with the 777384-01, which also support a ±0.1 V to ±10 V output range, providing similar speed to the inputs. The digital portion includes eight TTL-compatible lines, and there are two 24-bit up/down counters for application in event counting, frequency measurement, and generating pulses. There is a single 68-pin male SCSI-II connector located on the 777384-01, which can connect all of the outputs/input channels, thus providing easier cable management for bench testing and automation.
Configuration options are limited on the 777384-01 since there are no DIP switches, jumpers, or potentiometers, and therefore all configuration occurs using software. As a result of this type of configuration, software development and installation time are reduced along with potential errors due to incorrect setup. Self-calibration occurs onboard for the 777384-01 and requires no external voltage references to maintain consistent measurement accuracy throughout multiple cycles of calibration. The successive approximation analog-to-digital converter (ADC) associated with the 777384-01's analog input function utilizes a double-buffered digital-to-analog converter (DAC), thus ensuring signal integrity when simultaneously acquiring signals and sending signals out to devices connected to the device. Data transfer from the 777384-01 occurs via interrupts, programmable I/O, and/or direct memory access (DMA). Some additional features include scatter/gather mode and demand-transfer. A FIFO buffer exists onboard to help smoothen high speeds of data transfers. Power to the 777384-01 comes directly from the host PCI slot.
The primary customers utilizing the 777384-01 are engineers involved in developing and implementing laboratory measurement systems, electrochemical instrumentation such as bipotentiostats and industrial test rigs, as well as process monitoring stations, which require synchronization of both analog and digital signal handling capabilities. These products typically interface with NI-DAQ driver packages as well as LabVIEW programming software.
