National Instruments PCIe-8381 Device for PXI Remote Control

National Instruments developed the PCIe-8381 (Part Number: 782361-01), an MXI-Express remote controller, to enable PCI Express communication across extended distances of up to 5 meters. having its x8 PCI Express interface, PXI systems may be easily controlled from a PC having a PCI Express slot. There are two versions of this remote controller available: one that works with copper wires and the other that works with fiber-optic connections. Applications that call for remote control or the isolation of the automation or measurement system from the host PC will find the PCIe-8381 to be especially helpful. It enables PXI Express or CompactPCI Express backplane control, hence facilitating adaptable system setups. With this controller, a single PCI Express-based PC or PXI Express embedded controller can control numerous PXI Express or CompactPCI Express chassis. The PCIe-8381's transparent operation to software programs and drivers is one of its primary benefits.

This implies that industry-standard desktop PCs and servers may easily control linked devices without the need for further programming. The PCI Express switches in the kit allow the PCI-Express fabric to be extended, which makes it easier for the host PC and the PXI system to communicate. It's important to remember, though, that some host computers' BIOS might not accept this extension, which could lead to problems booting up or with functionality.

National Instruments provides NI MXI-Express BIOS Compatibility Software to help lessen this. The PCIe-8381 weighs 0.06 kg and measures 6.89 x 12.70 cm. It is completely compatible with PCI Express Specification, Revisions 1.0a, 1.1, and 2.0 and only needs one slot (PCI Express, x8 or wider). It is meant only for indoor usage, with a maximum operating height of 2,000 meters. In terms of environmental parameters, the PCIe-8381 functions within a range of 0 to 55 °C for ambient temperature and 10 to 90% for relative humidity. It can be stored in environments with temperatures between -20 and 70 °C and relative humidity levels between 5 and 95%.
