National Instruments PXI-PCI8335 MXI-3 Interface Board

The National Instruments PXI-PCI8335 is an interface kit designed to facilitate direct PC control of PXI/CompactPCI systems through MXI-3 technology. Through the establishment of a transparent hardware and software interface, this technology facilitates smooth control and communication between the PC and PXI/CompactPCI systems. Three components are included with every PXI-PCI8335 kit: a flexible MXI-3 cable, a 3U-size PXI-833x module, and a half-size PCI-833x plug-in board for installation in the computer or PXI/CompactPCI chassis. With the flexibility of fiber-optic or copper-optic data lines, two physically independent buses can be coupled thanks to MXI-3 technology.

This kit facilitates the connecting of numerous chassis utilizing PXI-8330 or PXI-8335 modules to provide multichassis configurations for PXI/CompactPCI systems. PXI/CompactPCI systems and PCs can transmit data at high speeds thanks to the MXI-3 connection, which has a peak throughput of 132 Mbytes/s and a sustained performance of 84 Mbytes/s. Users can pick either fiber-optic MXI-3 for greater distances (up to 200 meters) or copper MXI-3 for a more economical solution with electrical separation. Without requiring any operating system intervention, MXI-3 technology expands PXI/CompactPCI interrupts in a smooth and transparent manner. The operation temperature of the hardware is between 0 and 50 °C, while the storage temperature is between -20 and 70 °C.

The PXI-PCI8335 implements the PCI master/slave system by using the PCI-PCI bridge register set and integrates MXI-3 technology, which is capable of 1.5 Gbit/s serial communication speeds. With this technology, users can increase the number of slots available for applications, physically separate measurement or automation systems from the host PC, integrate PCI, CompactPCI, and PXI devices within the same system, and control PXI/CompactPCI backplanes with either a PCI or PXI/CompactPCI host system.
